Newspaper Laptops for Uganda

Last year gave WoonFriesland eight laptops at a school in Uganda . We wonder if our computers are actually used one year after the extradition . Read below the report of Janet Huisman:
It’s over a year since we , during our tour in Uganda , the Bigodi Primary & Secondary school visited. During the tour they showed us proudly a computer lab. But there were no computers . We then started thinking how we could solve this. WoonFriesland donated this school eight laptops . Habari travel ensured that these laptops where delivered at the school. Of course you’re always curious to see if they are used , or they even still in use ?
I just returned from Uganda . I have 17 days worked for the foundation MY Book Buddy. My Book Buddy stimulates children’s reading by children’s libraries to set up in developing countries. Each class has access to a mobile , lockable bookcase with books geared to the target group . The books are lent by the teacher to the children that they can read at home. I have eight libraries set up, which was great fun to do .
This project is beautiful and effective. Because you used the structure of the school system for lending the books you need . No additional resources No room , a library staff who should run . Setting up a central library you have to work with volunteers . Chances are that the library after one year is not much left . The bookcases are updated every year.
After we had arranged the laptops for Secondary I also wanted to have to do something for the Primary school Secondary school the next state . And for me a great opportunity to check or how it is with the laptops . Equally
When I arrived I saw the administration already sitting at a table in front of the building with a laptop WoonFriesland . In Excel they made plans for the exams . Students were working on the laptops . Pressure inside the computer room The ICT teacher told me that there was one piece but that could repair them happy again .
Before I left for Uganda I had a little Facebook action set . Of the money raised I bought a printer for both schools with extra cartridges . Because the bookcases for primary schools were specifically I bought books for Secondary Bigodi in Kampala for 800 euros .
It was very nice to see that the donation gives so much. Provide targeted assistance provides very much . I am currently working for all primary schools that I have with a library also provide computers. A new challenge .
Vorig jaar schonk WoonFriesland acht laptops aan een school in Oeganda. Wij zijn benieuwd of onze computers daadwerkelijk gebruikt worden een jaar na de uitlevering. Lees hieronder het verslag van Janet Huisman:
Laptop WF in gberuik
Het is ruim een jaar geleden sinds we, tijdens onze rondreis in Oeganda, de Bigodi secondary & Primary school bezochten. Tijdens de rondleiding lieten ze ons vol trots een computerlokaal zien. Maar er stonden geen computers in. We zijn toen gaan nadenken hoe we dit konden oplossen. WoonFriesland doneerde deze school maar liefst acht laptops. Habari travel zorgde ervoor dat deze laptops op de school werden bezorgd. Natuurlijk ben je altijd nieuwsgierig of ze ook gebruikt worden, of ze überhaupt nog in gebruik zijn?
Ik ben net terug uit Oeganda. Ik heb 17 dagen voor de stichting MY Book Buddy gewerkt. My Book Buddy stimuleert het lezen van kinderen in ontwikkelingslanden door kinderbibliotheken op te zetten. Elke klas krijgt de beschikking over een verrijdbare, afsluitbare boekenkast met boeken die afgestemd zijn op de doelgroep. De boeken worden uitgeleend door de leerkracht aan de kinderen die ze thuis kunnen lezen. Ik heb acht bibliotheken opgezet, dat was enorm leuk om te doen.
Dit project is prachtig en doeltreffend. Doordat je de structuur van de school gebruikt voor het uitleensysteem van de boeken heb je geen extra middelen nodig. Geen ruimte, personeel die een bibliotheek moet runnen. Zet je een centrale bibliotheek op dan moet je werken met vrijwilligers. De kans is groot dat er van de bibliotheek na een jaar nog maar weinig over is. De boekenkasten worden ieder jaar bijgewerkt.
Nadat we voor de Secondary de laptops hadden geregeld wilde ik namelijk ook graag iets doen voor de Primary school die naast de Secondary school staat. En voor mij een mooie gelegenheid of even te checken hoe het met de laptops gesteld is.
Toen ik aankwam zag ik de administratie al aan een tafeltje voor het gebouw zitten met een laptop van WoonFriesland. In Excel maakten ze schema’s voor de examens. Binnen in het computerlokaal zaten studenten druk te werken aan de laptops. De ICT docent vertelde me dat er eentje stuk was maar die konden ze gelukkig weer repareren.
Voor ik vertrok naar Oeganda had ik een kleine Facebook actie opgezet. Van het ingezamelde geld heb ik voor beide scholen een printer gekocht met extra cartridges. Omdat de boekenkasten specifiek voor de lagere scholen waren heb ik voor de Bigodi Secondary in Kampala voor 800 euro boeken gekocht.
Het was erg leuk om te zien dat de donatie zo veel oplevert. Gericht hulp geven levert erg veel op. Ik ben op dit moment bezig om voor alle lagere scholen die ik heb voorzien van een bibliotheek ook te voorzien van computers. Een nieuwe uitdaging.
